Invaders and Settlers

Our overarching title for our creative curriculum was ‘Invaders & Settlers.’ We started by finding out about the lifestyle of the Celts through different activities. Pupils were involved in discussing and establishing reasons why individuals move around and between countries. We then explored when and why the Romans invaded Britain and the impact of the invasion on the Celts. Children then researched Roman lifestyle in Britain. We had a range of genuine artefacts in class that we used to create our own Roman museum.

In the second half of term, we investigated and explored the lifestyle of first the Saxons and then the Vikings who settled in Britain. In Design Technology lessons we discussed, taste and evaluated different types of bread products which may have been available during the Saxon period. We then used this information to design and make our own bread product suitable for a Saxon family.
