Something Fishy!

Fish have been on the Earth for over 500 million years – long before even the dinosaurs roamed the planet. There are over 25,000 species.We are finding out abou fish this week. Do you have a fishy fact?

  2. The narwhal looks like a cross between a whale and a unicorn with its long, tusk sticking out from its head.

  3. When sharks lose their teeth they replace them really quickly.

  4. I like the sharks because they have sharp teeth and if there are no other fish in the sea they can still eat people!!!

  6. All fish have a swim bladder it helps them to float. Also you can tell how it eats by position of its mouth if it points downwards it eats from the ground ( like a cat fish ) if it points upwards it eats from the surface of the water (Hatchet fish do this) .if it points straight ahead it feeds in mid water ( like a tetra ).

    Cleaner fish help out other fish by removing parasites and dead skin from their scales.

    Although jellyfish and crayfish have the word ‘fish’ in their name, they aren’t actually fish.

    Over 1000 fish species are threatened by extinction.

    Mermaids are mythological creatures with the tail of a fish and the upper half of a woman.

    Also, their teeth are not actually conventional teeth, they are scale, so if they lose one, it grows back, fast..!
