Nearly twenty girls and boys from Year 5 and a similar number from Year 6 ran their hearts out to complete a 2k course across muddy rugby playing fields at the Brighton and Hove Schools Cross Country event recently. More than 300 runners take part in each race, so all our runners should be proud of their finishing positions. Amazingly, Anya and George both finished in the top five, thus qualifying to represent Brighton in the Sussex finals. And just as impressive was the fact that our Year 6 girls finished second overall in the team competition (out of twenty ‘big’ schools from Brighton and Hove) and the Year 6 boys finished first! Fantastic for a school with no fields…
Part of our success is down to the fact that many of our children include running as part of their club activities, or do the Park Runs, or come along to the Millers’ mile run at Queens Park before school on Mon, Wed and Fri (they’re always willing to see new faces).
Many thanks to all the parents and carers who helped out with lifts after a fire at our usual coach company left us with no transport. Their presence at the event encouraged all the children to do their best and we’re very grateful to them.
Here’s some photos of our competitors in various stages of celebration and fatigue!
