Brighton Area Schools Cross Country Competition
Brighton Rugby Club, Waterhall, Brighton BN1 8YR, Wednesday 20th November
(Coach leaves at 12.30, returns to school at 3.30pm approximately)
If your child is in Year 5 or Year 6 and enjoys running, then they should come to our team trials for Cross Country, a 2k running event across field at Waterhall.
We are able to take 10 girls and 10 boys from Year 5 and from Year 6, a total of 40 children altogether.
We would like any children who wish to participate to come along to Jacky Miller’s Run A Mile Club at Queen’s Park before school on Friday 8th and Monday 11th November so that we can pick a team. Here are the details from Jacky:
“We meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during term time at 8.30am. The meeting point is at the top of the park near the bowling green. We don’t run if it is raining that morning. I notify people of this on the Facebook page.

The Cross Country event itself is a big event and a great opportunity to participate in competitive sport. If they are chosen to take part your child needs to wear their PE kit, plus something warm (e.g. tracksuit and waterproof) to wear before running. It’s always colder, wetter and windier at Waterhall than at Queen’s Park! Trainers or football boots should be worn, as it is likely to be muddy and slippery. We will supply the team with St. Luke’s running bibs to wear for the races. Children should bring a water bottle too, and all children will need a packed lunch (with plenty of snacks) as we will be leaving during lunchtime.
All races are 2 km. Here are the approximate times: 1) Year 5 Boys* 1.30pm 2) Year 5 Girls 1.45pm 3) Year 6 Boys 2.00pm 4) Year 6 Girls 2.15pm From 2.45pm Presentations
In an attempt to solve the transport issues of getting to Waterhall we have booked a coach for this year. We will leave at 12.30 and hope to be back to school at around 3.30pm.
We will let the children know by the end of the day on Wednesday 13th if they are in the team. We will also ask up to six DBS checked parents to join us to help out on the day.
All the best
